Oil on canvas, signed and dated, 1941. Framed, bears artist’s own label, title and date to reverse, and cleaning label dated 1959.
Size: 56 x 46 inches (142 x 117).
Additional Notes: Previously owned by Air Vice-Marshall William (Bill) Ernest Staton, (known as ‘Crack-em Staton) CB., DSO., MC, Monxton, Andover, Hants). An uplifting and deeply moving painting with a particularly understated title, epitomising the spirit of Britain in 1940 in a way very few other images have.
