(1435) The Kaiser Wilhelm II Smoking Set
His Royal Highness Kaiser Wilhelm II, Emperor of Germany, King of Prussia (1859-1941). A unique and highly important presentation set of four silver cigar boxes and matching giant match box holder, in fitted leather presentation/ carrying case with removable cover inlaid in bronze with the Royal Prussian crown, each oblong cigar box with ribbed sides, the covers divided into quarters (of which three are ribbed and one plain), each with applied gold and red-enamelled 'W' with the Royal Prussian crown above (for Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, later Emperor Wilhelm II), each box with wood base and partial wood dividers, the cover of each engraved inside with a facsimile signature 'Victoria', (for Princess Victoria 1840-1901, wife of Prince Friederich Wilhelm, 1831-1888, later Emperor Friedrich III), with large matching matchbox holder en suite, similarly applied with 'W' and Royal Prussian crown, with a set of 10 cigar-holders with 'WR' monogram and Royal Prussian crown above (for Emperor Wilhelm II), all in fitted purple grained leather felt-lined travelling case with applied gilded bronze Royal Prussian crown, marked J. Wagner und Sohn, Berlin, German circa 1885. Dimensions: Two boxes 23 cm (9 inches) wide, 13 cm (5¼ inches) deep; two boxes: 23 cm (9 inches) wide, 15 cm (6 inches) deep. Travelling case: 60 cm (24 inches) wide, 35 cm (13½ inches) deep.
