‘Renault’ by Gamy, 1911
A rare original 1911 lithograph. Mounted, framed and glazed within a limed oak frame.
Dimensions: 31 x 21 inches (79 x 52 cms).
Additional Notes: Ernest Montaut (1879-1909), a French artist, was celebrated as an illustrator of early automobile racing, air and water transportation. The production of prints in the same style continued after Montaut’s death in 1909 and it is assumed that many of the later prints from the artist “Gamy” were produced by Montaut’s wife Marguerite, with Gamy being an anagram of her nickname “Magy” the old motor.
